After Fifteen Months of Perseverance, Old Town Tavern Is Ready to Grow
On July 1, 2026, the Scottsdale City Council voted 7-0 to approve the expansion of Old Town Tavern, marking the successful conclusion of a fifteen-month journey filled with planning, perseverance, and overwhelming community support.
For owner Paul Mitchell, the moment was unforgettable.
"I was ecstatic," Paul said following the unanimous vote.
The approval allows Old Town Tavern to move forward with completing the long-awaited renovation of the adjoining space, bringing to life a vision that has been years in the making.

What Happens Next?
Construction will begin immediately, with hopes of opening the expanded space by mid-August.
The project includes completing all of the renovations outlined in the architectural plans, including a brand-new stage designed to enhance the live music experience that has become a signature of Old Town Tavern.
A new six-foot opening between the existing tavern and the adjoining space will allow guests to move freely between both areas, creating one seamless experience while preserving the unique character of each side.
Once complete, the expanded Old Town Tavern will feature more than 60 indoor seats, giving customers additional air-conditioned seating to relax, enjoy great food and drinks, and experience live music in comfort.
The new stage will also provide improved sound amplification, making performances even more enjoyable for both musicians and guests.
"Never take anything for granted, and never give up. You're capable of achieving anything you strive for and truly believe in."
A Victory Built by Many People
While the vote was unanimous, Paul is quick to point out that this accomplishment wasn't achieved alone.
He gives tremendous credit to his attorney, Cameron Morgan, who spent more than fifteen months researching, preparing, and fighting on behalf of Old Town Tavern.
"Cameron deserves all the credit," Paul said. "We discussed everything almost daily, and he never gave up. He did an incredible amount of research and worked tirelessly to put together a legitimate agreement that ultimately helped us move forward."
Paul also expressed gratitude to Jay Rollins, whose efforts helped bring council members together for important conversations that clarified misunderstandings about the project.
One of the biggest misconceptions was that Old Town Tavern intended to build a nightclub.
That was never the plan.
The project has always been about expanding the existing Old Town Tavern, creating a better experience for customers, and revitalizing space that had fallen into disrepair.
Thank You to Our Incredible Community
Perhaps the greatest source of encouragement throughout this journey came from the people who have supported Old Town Tavern from the very beginning.
"I never imagined I would be placed in a position like this," Paul said.
"I am so flattered and grateful for the 100% support I received from my family, my attorney, my customers, my friends, vendors, neighboring businesses, and even people who had never been to the tavern before."
Hundreds of supporters wrote emails, made phone calls, attended City Council meetings, shared social media posts, and encouraged Old Town Tavern every step of the way.
That support made a difference.
Looking Toward the Future
For more than 16 years at the original Old Town Tavern location and nearly three years at the current location, Paul has remained committed to creating a place where people feel welcome.
That vision hasn't changed.
"I want to build a better Old Town Tavern where people can come to hear live music, laugh, enjoy great drinks, and spend time together in a clean, comfortable environment with a staff that truly takes care of every customer."
With construction beginning soon, that vision is finally becoming a reality.
A Lesson Worth Remembering
Looking back on the past fifteen months, Paul says there's one lesson he'll carry with him long after the construction is finished.
"Never take anything for granted, and never give up. You're capable of achieving anything you strive for and truly believe in."
Those words perfectly capture the journey that brought Old Town Tavern to this moment.
The road wasn't easy.
There were setbacks, difficult conversations, and months of uncertainty.
But through determination, professional guidance, and the unwavering support of an incredible community, Old Town Tavern is now preparing for its next chapter.
We can't wait to welcome everyone into the completed expansion and continue making Old Town Tavern one of the best places in Scottsdale to enjoy great food, cold drinks, live music, and unforgettable memories.
Here's to the future.
We'll see you soon.
